A Broken World

We live in a broken world. You know it. I know it. The world knows it.

There are no answers in the world. Politics do not rise to the occasion. Revolutions have not fixed what is wrong. People are simply not equipped to fix the brokenness of the world. We only make it worse when we rely on ourselves. Everything is fleeting and nothing is fixed.

You know it. I know it. The world knows it.

How can we begin to understand that there is a fix for brokenness?

Hear the message of the Bible for a moment.

God is the Creator. As the Creator He inherently has all rights, He retains all glory, and He is all-wise, all-knowing, and can do what we are not capable of doing or even thinking.

Human beings are the creation, made in the image of God.

Sin is doing wrong, and it violates both God as the Creator and human beings in God’s image. This breaks us. We are guilty of sin, and sin lies at the heart of all corruption. We are no longer whole, and the brokenness of the world reflects the problem of sin.

How can this be fixed? In a word, forgiveness.

God loves us, and because He loves us, He wants us to experience His grace and forgiveness. Through this grace, we can have our brokenness healed.

This is why we need Jesus Christ. Since God is the One against whom we have sinned, He is the only One with the right to offer the forgiveness. He is the only One with the power to heal the brokenhearted.

Sin is the problem that all of us have suffered with. God, the One whom we have violated, offers the solution through Jesus. This is why Jesus died and rose again, and we can experience the blessings and benefits of what that means.

Forgiveness of all our sins.
Blessings of fellowship with God and all others who share in that same fellowship.
Born again to a living hope to an inheritance reserved in heaven.

While the brokenness in this world and the debilitating effects of sin will continue for now, none of us need to suffer the eternal effects of the problem of sin. We can be free from it. We can take this freedom from sin into eternity to be with our Lord.

This is the gospel message. Christ died for our sins, was buried, raised on the third day, appeared to many, and became, for us, the guarantee that one day we will be forever freed from the brokenness of this world in order to live eternally with Him.

We live in a broken world. You know it. I know it. The world knows it.

We were made for something much better. It’s time to live for Him who died for us.
