About

Who are we?

We are the church of Christ patterned after the New Testament example of local churches.  We believe in the authoritative word of God and will provide you with a Scriptural answer for everything we do in worship and in deed.  We exalt Jesus Christ and seek to glorify Him, not ourselves (Ephesians 3:21).  Therefore,, our efforts are directed toward promoting commitment to Christ, not to any person or institution (1Corinthians 2:5).

Our assemblies are simple.  We sing without the use of an instrument (Ephesians 5:19Colossians 3:16); we pray (1Timothy 2:1); we partake of the Lord's Supper each first day of the week (1Corinthians 11:23-29,
Acts 20:7); and we teach from God's word.  All teaching and preaching comes from the Bible.

The financial support of this congregation comes from the free-will offerings of its members made on the first day of the week (1Corinthians 16:1-22Corinthians 8:1-59:6-7).  We do not solicit gifts of any kind from those who are not members of this local congregation.  Contributions are used for the spiritual growth of this congregation.  We do not use any of this money that is collected for social programs or the support of any human institution nor are we involved with either.  We believe the church itself can do all the work God has given it to do.  And, we aim to do only the work God has given it to do: (1) Teach the Gospel to all; (2) Build up and edify the members of the local congregation; (3) Assist needy saints.  All the other "good work" is the responsibility of individual Christians (Titus 2:11-14James 1:27Galatians 6:9-10).

Are We a Denomination?

No. Denominationalism is based upon division, and division based on differing names and doctrines is not what the Lord wants (see 1 Corinthians 1:10-13Ephesians 4:1-6John 17:20-21). The Bible teaches against following after men and man-made doctrines (Matthew 15:7-9Colossians 2:20-23). We are determined to follow only the Bible and do only what is authorized by God therein. We have no binding creeds aside from Scripture, and no denominational alliances with a “super-body” or national organization. We have no councils, synods, or earthly headquarters to make decisions for us. We support no outside institutions to do our work. We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18) and anything we do, believe, or teach needs to originate from Scripture (1Peter 4: 11). Each congregation in the New Testament was self-governing, independently working to do God’s will. We strive to follow that pattern in the New Testament. We believe this to be the safe course as we make it our aim to please God. When a church simply follows only what the Bible teaches, it will not be a denomination, since there were none in the first century. We are trying to follow the Bible in every way and only be what the Lord has authorized. We invite you to join us in this effort.

What About Our Worship
By its nature and design, worship is an expression of love and devotion.  Our love for God, who He is, what He has done for all mankind, should prompt us to worship.  God loved us first (1 John 4:9) and we love Him for loving us first.  We thank God for His indescribable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15).

We believe the Bible is the work of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ is the great hope for eternal life.  We understand the church that Jesus died for has been designed by God and directed by our Lord and Savior and it is our responsibility to adhere to these Biblical examples and directions. As such, when you visit with us you will see the following:

• We worship God in spirit and truth – John 4:24

  • We study the plain teaching of the Bible – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • We lift up our voices to God in congregational singing – Ephesians 5:19
  • We pray together – Acts 2:42
  • We partake of the Lord’s Supper on the First Day of the Week – Acts 20:7

What Do We Teach About Salvation

We teach that salvation is a gift of God “by grace through faith” (Ephesians 2:8-9). When one hears God’s word and believes, that person acts by repenting of sins, confessing Jesus as Lord, and being baptized into Christ for the remission of sins (Romans 10:9-1017Acts 2:38). Those who come to God must believe that He is, and that He rewards those who seek Him, for without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). Yet true faith will act upon what God says, and though we are to obey God, we know that we cannot earn our salvation. We are simply responding by faith to God’s grace in the way God tells us to.

Our plea is to go back to the Bible. We urge all people to forsake denominationalism, renounce all man-made creeds and doctrines, and follow the pure teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed” (John 8:31). It does matter what we believe and practice. We are not saying that we are flawless, but we are pointing to the written standard given by the One who is flawless. We are seeking to unite upon this standard, and we believe that the standard is given in such a way that we can know God’s will from and follow it.

Here at the Church of Christ-Rockville, we do our best to share the good news with all our neighbors in Fairfield, Suisun, and the surrounding areas.  As Christians, we are charged with teaching others about God and what He has given each of us.

We cordially invite you to come and worship the Lord with us and be our honored guest.  We meet in the old historic Rockville Stone Chapel located at 4221 Suisun Valley Road in Fairfield, California.

Come and visit us.  We will welcome you and demonstrate God's love each and every one of us.
